Prior notification of construction site

The client should, except for smaller jobs, send a prior notification to the Swedish Work Environment Authority before work begins.

As a client you must notify a construction site to the Swedish Work Environment Authority if any of the following apply:

  • the construction or civil engineering works will last for more than 30 working days on the construction site and more than 20 people will be working simultaneously on the site at any one point.
  • the workers on the construction site will work more than 500 person-days, that is to say everyone working will together work more than 500 days in total.

The purpose of prior notification is to ensure that the Swedish Work Environment Authority is aware of all ongoing construction work of larger extent.

The client should also make sure that a copy of the prior notification is available at the construction site and that the copy is updated when needed. The client does not need to send a new prior notification if the Swedish Work Environment Authority is already informed about the construction work.
