About the Work Environment Act

In the Work Environment Act, there are regulations about the obligations of employers and others responsible for safety, to prevent ill health and accidents at work. There are also regulations about the cooperation between employer and employee, for example rules about the activities of the safety representative.

The work environment encompasses all factors and relationships at work:

  • technical
  • physical
  • organisational
  • social
  • work content.

The Government and the Riksdag

It is the Riksdag that decides about Sweden’s laws. The government, on the other hand, can decide on supplementary regulations, for example the Work Environment Ordinance (1977:1166). The Work Environment Act (1977:1160) and this ordinance are renewed all the time.
