Prior notification of construction site
As a client, you must notify the Swedish Work Environment Authority in advance of certain more extensive construction projects. This means that your prior notification must be submitted before the first building or civil engineering work begins.
Which construction sites require prior notification?
You must submit a prior notification if either of the following applies:
- the work is expected to last longer than 30 working days on the construction site and more than 20 people will be working simultaneously there at any given time,
or
- the total number of person-days worked on the construction site is estimated to be more than 500.
Person-days are the sum of all the days worked by each person on the construction site, regardless of how many hours they work each day. Everyone who contributes to the completion of the building or civil engineering work must be included.
How it works
-
Provide the information available at the time you submit the notification.
If you have already submitted a prior notification for the construction site, you do not need to submit a new notification.
-
You receive an automatic confirmation once we have received your prior notification.
We will send the confirmation to the email address of the client's representative and to the person who submitted the prior notification.
-
The purpose of prior notification is for the Swedish Work Environment Authority to be aware of all major construction projects in progress.
We therefore keep the prior notification and, as long as the construction project is ongoing, we may inspect the construction site if we consider it appropriate.
-
If you, as the client, do not submit a prior notification, you may have to pay a sanction fee.
-
It is your responsibility as a client to ensure that a copy of the prior notification is clearly displayed at the construction site.
For example, you can display a printout of the automatic reply you receive from us after submitting your notification as it contains the information you provided.
-
As the client, you must update the prior notification if necessary. It primarily needs to be kept up to date at the construction site. If, for example, the construction phase is delayed, you should also notify the Swedish Work Environment Authority.
